BMW 5 Series 2008 - review

BMW 5 Series 2008 - Introduction

BMW 5 Series 2008: there are few cars that achieve such a perfect mix of comfort and joy like the 2008 BMW 5 Series. The 5 Series remains a truly sporting sedan that stands out in the fiercely competitive market for mid-sized luxury cars. You wouldn’t know it at first glance – or even a second or third glance – but the BMW 5 Series receives styling updates for the 2008 model year. The new 2008 BMW 5 Series has been designed so to give more power and better mileage.

BMW 5 Series 2008 - What's new?

BMW 5 Series 2008 - What's new? Substantial improvements to the BMW 5 Series sedans and wagon for 2007 add a lot, but change little. For 2008, the current-generation BMW 5 Series receives its most important update since the car's 2004 introduction. The 5 series in the model year 2008 comes in 6 different model types. All the 6 model types have been provided with more features and better engine than the 5 series models of the earlier years. With new, innovative technologies coming at a mile-a-minute pace in this premium midsize luxury segment, BMW has introduced several standard and optional features for the 2008 5 Series. They include mild exterior revisions, improvements to the interior and a significant power boost for six-cylinder models.

BMW 5 Series 2008 basic character hasn't changed a bit, because every 5 Series puts an emphasis on the driving. This car has just about everything you could ask for in a luxury sedan, including the features, comfort and convenience of full-size luxury models, the sporting character of smaller ones.

BMW 5 Series 2008 - My Mind.

The BMW 5 Series 2008 is one of my favorite cars, and always has been. I'm glad to see BMW staying on top of its game and updating the car where needed, but leaving the rest alone.

The wisdom to learn from experience, the courage to push the limits: this is the combination that leads to lasting success, 2008 BMW 5 Series experts agree.

Chevrolet Cobalt 2008 - Introduction.

The Chevrolet Cobalt 2008 is a 2- or 4-door, 5-passenger family coupe, or family sedan, available in 8 trims, ranging from the LS Coupe to the Sport Sedan. It is front-wheel drive, four-cylinder compact car with quality performance that promises a pleasurable and exciting ride for the whole family. Great new features include audio systems, a 3- spoke steering wheel, and remote vehicle start. The 2008 Chevy Cobalt is a satisfactory choice for an economy car that excels in performance and ride quality.

Chevrolet Cobalt 2008 - what's new?

The Chevrolet Cobalt sedan is available in four trim levels: LS, LT, LTZ and SS. The Cobalt coupe is available in four as well: LT, SS and the performance-oriented SS Supercharged. With regard to safety, an Antilock Brake System, StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control Systems, and Daytime Running Lamps are available to keep passengers safe and secured. Chevrolet Cobalt 2008 pricing.

But I do enjoy the fact that Chevrolet installed a boost gauge on the A-pillar and sport seats to keep you in place as you verify Chevrolet's claim that the SS can manage 0.90 g on the skidpad. Prices should start in the low-$20,000 range.

The Chevrolet Cobalt LS sedan and coupe ($13,675) come standard with cloth upholstery, 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, air conditioning, height-adjustable driver's seat, PASS-Key III Plus theft deterrence, automatic headlights, two 12-volt power outlets, electric rear defogger, tilt steering column, driver information center and a four-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo with an auxiliary input jack. New for 2008 is standard XM Satellite Radio.

The LT ($14,375) sedan and coupe get power windows and door locks, plus upgraded upholstery, adjustable lumbar support for the driver, and some other amenities. LT's with the neutral interior color now feature woodgrain trim.

Review of New Toyota Lexus IS-F

Toyota’s luxury Lexus arm’s latest image car, the new Toyota Lexus IS-F, is a 400bhp V8 version of the IS model, and the first model to carry Lexus’ new ‘F’ badge, which signifies special performance versions – rather like BMW’s ‘M’ models. It has an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Indeed, the new Toyota Lexus IS-F is an all-new high-performance version of the popular Lexus IS 250 sport saloon. The car features unique styling and a substantial boost in power from a V8 powerplant.

The Lexus F designation identifies vehicles specifically designed and engineered for ultra-high performance and exceptional sports driving dynamics. F-badged models further emphasise Lexus’s pursuit of perfection and its aim to continuously push the limits of automobile engineering.

The new Toyota Lexus IS-F is powered by a sports-tuned 5.0-litre V8 that delivers more than 400 DIN hp and 500 Nm of torque.

The IS-F engine is mated to the world's first eight-speed automatic gearbox. Acceleration from rest to 62mph takes 4.9 seconds and top speed is a governed 168mph. Carbon dioxide emissions of 290g/km position the IS-F as one of the cleanest sports saloons in its class, as well as one of the most powerful.

In keeping with its sporting character, the IS-F is the first Lexus to feature switchable VDIM (Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management). This lets the driver select Normal, Sport or Off settings according to preference.

The interior of the IS-F receives unique styling treatment with aluminium and composite trim and special surface treatments.

The instrument panel includes an oil-temperature gauge and shift indicator-lights, while the "F" logo is prominent on the steering wheel and rear-centre console.

In addition to the usual Lexus standards of comfort and convenience, the interior of the IS-F features specially shaped and trimmed seats, which hold the driver comfortably and securely in place. The special sport seats are available in black or a unique high-contrast white and black trim.

"The intent of creating the IS-F was not to be a competitor to other performance saloons," said Bob Carter, Lexus US Division Group Vice President and General Manager.

“Rather, the goal was to create a true performance saloon in a uniquely Lexus way, one that is totally authentic with a unique interpretation of raw driving thrill at all speeds and provides a whole new definition of 'usable power.”

Review of the Volvo S80

Among luxury sedans, the Volvo S80 has always been something of an alternative choice. Through two generations, Volvo's largest sedan has spurned outright luxury and serious performance in favor of cutting-edge safety features and in-cabin technology. And, in a class dominated by rear-drive sedans, Volvo continues to tout the virtues of front-wheel drive, while offering all-wheel drive as an option.

There are plenty of premium-brand sedans that feel more upscale than the S80. There are just as many that surpass its balance and grip on a winding back road. Yet the Volvo S80 is most certainly one of the safest four-door conveyances money can buy. It also boasts some of the industry's most supportive seats and top-rated factory audio systems.

For luxury sedan buyers whose tastes run astray from the mainstream, the Volvo S80 is an interesting car to consider. And with a price tag that undercuts many European and Japanese-brand competitors, it can be a sensible option as well.

The 2008 Volvo S80 adds a new trim level to its roster. This is Volvo's flagship sedan. It comes in three trim levels: the front-wheel drive 3.2; the new-for-2008 all-wheel drive T6; and the AWD V8. The 3.2 has a 235-hp 3.2-liter inline 6-cylinder engine. T6 has a turbocharged 281-hp 3.0-liter inline six. The V8 has a 311-hp 4.4-liter engine. All S80s have a 6-speed automatic transmission. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags. Available is Volvo's Blind Spot Information System or BLIS. It detects and warns of nearby objects that may go unseen by the driver. An optional Sport Package includes driver-adjustable power-steering settings and Volvo's Four-C adaptive suspension with Comfort, Sport, and Advanced settings. Other options include a navigation system and DVD entertainment.
